P.J.Th.M. (Pierre) Steeghs

Founder of Rubicon and Chartered Accountant
‘Thinking outside of the box’

Pierre started his studies as an accountant with the tax authorities in 1980 and worked successively at the National Audit Department in Leiden and the Tax Services for Large Companies in Utrecht. He also followed professional studies at the Dutch Institute of Chartered Accountants, which he completed in 1990. One year before achieving these courses, Pierre started at Price Waterhouse (now PwC) where he worked until 1997. Together with two others he founded Rubicon Tax Advisors in 1997, which was extended with a Chartered Accountant branch in 2000.
In addition to his work as a Chartered Accountant, Pierre is also active as lecturer in fiscal law and external reporting in the accountant training program of the Nyenrode Business University. He also provides training for companies. His specific expertise lies in the field of cross-border tax issues, acquisitions and asset transfer, translating tax into figures, analyzing data and improving customers’ businesses while collaborating with them.
What appeals to Pierre in tax law is the dynamics. "Every day something changes, so you must remain alert constantly." He furthermore takes great satisfaction from working with clients of various professions and also in the collection and transfer of knowledge. "There are various appealing aspects in my profession. I find it appealing, for example, to take away the concerns of my clients by coming up with solutions that improve their business operations. In addition, I like to stimulate my clients, staff and students to deal creatively with the profession and to approach issues from different perspectives. In other words, I find great satisfaction in working outside the box. If that works, I have succeeded."
